Coral Coast is a stunning coastline stretching for 1,100km from Cervantes to World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef. It is a place of pristine natural beauty reflected in stretches of white sandy beaches, clear turquoise waters, unique marine wildlife and wildflowers, unspoilt coral reefs just meters from the beach and magnificent landscapes with stunning bays, islands and ancient gorges. It is unique, rare and exceptionally beautiful.
Shark Bay
Shark Bay is the largest bay in Australia, stretching for over 1000 kilometres, which includes pristine beaches and calm warm waters. It is located 800km north of Perth on Australia’s most westerly point.
Listed as a world heritage place since 1991, it satisfies all four of the criteria for the natural heritage values:
- Natural beauty, which includes diversity of landscapes (peninsulas, islands and bays), rare, unique and abundant flora and fauna.
- Earth’s evolutionary history represented by famous Hamelin Pool Stromatolites.
- Ecological processes seen in the largest seagrass meadow in the world with the highest species diversity assembled in one place.
- Shark Bay is home to many endangered plants and animals that still survive.
Ningaloo Reef
Another beautiful region that is part of beautiful Coral Coast is Ningaloo Reef. It is the world’s largest fringing reef, one of the longest near shore reefs in the world and it is easiy accessible. It is a World Heritage listed place due to its unique, rare and diverse flora and fauna, the most famous representation of which is a whale-shark – large (up to 18 meters long) filter-feeding fish. Around 400 whale sharks gather at Ningaloo each year and there are a number of tour operators that are willing to take you on for an interacting experience for a bit less than a slice of a fortune. We did the whale shark tour some 11 years ago or so and it was indeed a life experience (but be prepared to get seasick if you suffer from that 😊).
Being that large, Ningaloo Reef region offers plenty of wonderful places to see and unique once in a life time experiences.
Coast and inland off Geraldton
Coast and inland off Geraldton offer much to see and do for locals and tourists alike. Ellendale Pool, Greenough are just some of the places. This area can enjoyed as a destination holiday by itself or as part of a longer trip to Ningaloo Reef and Shark Bay.
